This is the official webpage for providing information regarding the 2018 Municipal Election. The website will be updated as new information becomes available.
Carlow/Mayo provides the information needed to understand the electoral process. It is also an excellent resource for candidates and voters to find out what they need in order to run for office or how to exercise their right to vote.
The Municipal Clerk is the Returning Officer and conducts the municipal elections.
The upcoming Municipal Election will be held on Monday October 22, 2018 to elect the following offices:
Reeve, at Large
(2) Councillors, Ward 1
(2) Councillors, Ward 2
School Board Trustees
This four (4) year term of office starts December 1, 2018 to November 14, 2022.
Nominations can be filed for a regular election between May 1st and July 26th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Nomination Day, July 27th, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
In a ward system an eligible voter in the municipality may run in any ward.
Identification must be provided at the time of filing your nomination paper. The required filing fee for the Head of Council is $200.00 and all other offices are $100.00 (cash, debit, certified cheque or money order made payable to the Township of Carlow/Mayo).
On April 5, 2017 Council passed a by-law which will allow for internet/telephone voting for the 2018 Municipal Election to ensure greater accessibility of all voters to exercise their individual and democratic right. The Municipality participated in a joint RFP for internet/telephone voting service providers with other Hastings County municipalities: Municipality of Hastings Highlands, Municipality of Marmora and Lake, Township of Tudor and Cashel, Township of Limerick, Municipality of Tweed, Municipality of Centre Hastings. Eligible electors can vote using a telephone, computer, cell phone, iPad, tablet or laptop. This is an accessible, environmentally-friendly and convenient method of voting. Internet voting provides voters with flexibility and convenience, reduces wait times at voting locations, delivers quick and accurate results and allows students and vacationers to vote from anywhere.
A Voter Information Letter will be mailed the beginning of October 2018 to eligible electors providing instructions and a pin number for internet/telephone voting. If you do not receive a letter please contact the municipal office.
You will be able to vote in advance of Election Day. The voting period will be from October 9, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. to October 22, 2018 at 8:00 p.m.
A Voter Help Centre will be open at the municipal office, 3987 Boulter Road, Monday to Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from October 9th and until 8:00 p.m. on election day,
October 22nd, if you have questions, require electronic voting assistance or need internet/telephone service.
Please find the following generic videos to give a better understanding of electronic voting. The Township of Carlow/Mayo are not offering a paper ballot option during the 2018 Municipal Election.
The difference in the instructional video is that Carlow/Mayo will be voting for a REEVE at Large, and up to TWO COUNCIL MEMBERS FOR WARD 1 and up to TWO COUNCIL MEMBERS FOR WARD 2 and a SCHOOL BOARD TRUSTEE.
