Carlow Mayo Public Library

Lego Building Blocks of Literacy for Local Public Libraries

Hastings Highlands, Bancroft and Carlow/Mayo public libraries  all partnered and worked together to apply to the Ontario Trillium Foundation. The successful  grant application of $15,000.00 was awarded to the three libraries for the LEGO/DUPLO Program.

Brainstorming  and research by the three libraries showed how Lego and Duplo could help build literacy, numeracy and social skills in our communities. The blocks are a way to develop a meaningful and cost effective way of engaging children, youth, families and seniors. The libraries also work with the local schools through a lending program, to help more children. The Lego and Duplo blocks are used to demonstrate and relate to the books used in current school curriculums.

Carlow/Mayo Public Library is a joint-use facility with Hermon Public School. We have a great library collection that can meet the needs of your whole family which includes a range of books, dvd's, audio books and magazines. We have four computer workstations, two children's early literacy computer stations and Free WIFI.

We strive to provide equal access to information, ideas and lifelong learning opportunities through a range of services and programs.
