  • History

The public library in our community has long been rooted in a partnership with the Public School system through the Hastings Prince Edward District School Board.

Over the last 35 years the library has been located in different rooms of the school.

In 2006 it came to the attention of a former Principal of Hermon Public School, Mr. Bill English that there was funding for municipalities for the delivery of library services.

A partnership was developed with the Hermon School Library and the municipality to create the CARLOW/MAYO Public Library. The ribbon cutting ceremony April 6, 2006 completed the delivery of library services to the municipality of Carlow/Mayo.

Per the Library ACT and receiving ongoing funding from the municipality and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the library is managed by an appointed Library Board and CEO.

    A Genealogy Guide
Searching genealogy has become very common, with many people investing in different methods. People have different reasons for wanting to find out who their ancestors are; sometimes it’s just curiosity while other times there is a medical necessity. Whatever your reason may be, you need to be sure you know how to approach the process.

    Genealogy Research Strategies
Tracing genealogy records has become a hobby for some people while for others it is an obsession. Those who have been adopted or find themselves a victim of the “system,” may have the need to find out who their parents are. This could be out of curiosity, but in many cases, it is the need to secure medical information. It can be a difficult chore if you have no idea how or where to begin your search. The Internet has made this task easier, especially with sites such as Ancestry.com and Genealogy.com, but they don’t always provide everything necessary to locate a person’s ancestors. Consider the following sources of information as you begin working on your genealogy.

    Family Search Centre
    (LDS Genealogy website)

    OverDrive
With millions of checkouts and desktop installations, OverDrive provides the leading download service for libraries. Our support for PC, Mac®, iPod®, Zune®, Sony® Reader™, nook™, and thousands of other mobile devices makes our library platform the most compatible library download service. We also offer the largest collection of audiobooks, eBooks, music, and video for the library – all available on a single website for browsing, checking out, and downloading.

    MPAC
(About my Property-is a secure, online self-service application that provides property owners with convenient access to property assessment information, lot size, recent sales, etc. on your and neighbouring properties-free) (See library staff for assistance to access it if you require it–you will need your property assessment notice for your unique username and password)
